Different music, performers, styles and genres have come and gone through the ages. But the strange thing is that even if a certain style disappear as such, very often some of it remains. What we call classical music today is a mix of different styles that have been melted together in these processes earlier. Rock in the 50s was much simpler than rock is today, because it has taken up parts of different styles that have gone as styles of their own. Jazz in the 30s was a swinging very listenable music, while the most "modern" versions now don't resemble music at all (in my ears). And both artists and critics are trying to be free from boxes and styles, which makes it impossible to be exact when describing the style of the music. And why should we try so hard to categorize the music? Why not just enjoy it? I believe that's what it was meant for in the first place. Music seems to be food for the soul. Something to dive into mentally. Feel the work done by the music on our mood... |

To me these artist
didn't make a real impression. They had some good songs but that was
it! In my book there are many good ones, but 2 names that belong at the top of my list are Queen and Creedence. So here are a couple of links to official sites dealing in those subjects. The taste of Queen came in stages and steps. I liked Killer Queen the first time out. But after some time and some songs by the group it really was the voice of Freddie that caught me and kept me close. The only real regret I have in this matter is that I never managed to get myself to a concert with them live.

Further on the list as
the time went, you would find Pink Floyd, Eagles, Manfred Mann, ELO,
Slade, Supertramp... and so on and so on.

Pop Pop music is - also - a big all-containing bag of very different tastes and products. And therefore you will find a mix of good and bad, bland and glorious music here. And some of it downright awful. And as time has gone the borders between pop and rock are more or less gone. Some of the artists I've found here that have given me good experiences are:

Smokie, George
Michael, Elton John, Bette Midler

Norwegian And then there are the Norwegian artists. We have a TV program called Beat for Beat, where artists unknown and known alike compete against each other in knowledge about music and the ability to recognize - and perform - the songs given to them in cryptic code and half sentences. And I've had many an unexpected and hair raising experience with these programs. |
